Legacy of Grandmothers
As parents, it was always our intention to raise our children to become strong, independent people, capable of walking into the world as contributing members of society. It’s been delightful to watch both of our children grow into fine adults – each of them have made us proud many times over.
If you followed my series of PORTAL 52 paintings last year, then you’ll know I’ve recently passed through one of the best kind of portals known to humankind – I’m now a grandmother! Our son and daughter-in-law welcomed into the world a healthy 9 pound 7 ounce baby boy!
As I watch my son become a parent, I’m filled with nostalgia, hope, joy, excitement and wonder. Things have come full circle, however, as I now appreciate every day as another chance to live my life in a way that will make my kids proud of me and speak kindly about my influence on them.
A grandmother’s legacy should be grand, after all!
